    yes. 7.62 is the opposite of 5.56.

    5.56x45 is hotter than .223 (You should not fire 5.56 in a .223 chamber)

    .308 is hotter than 7.62x51 (you should not fire .308 in a 7.62 chamber)

    I bought a new DPMS Panther that has a lower that is stamped .308 and the upper is stamped 7.62 How common is this? Does this mean I should not fire .308 thrue the upper?
