Since it is an N frame, I would venture a guess that it may have started it's life as a Model 58.

    WE HAVE A WINNER!!!
it started it life as a model 58 in 41 mag.
New barrel and cylinder chambered in 45 acp.
Frame modified to round butt. Actually k frame grips fit it.
Trigger face smoothed, action job, and wide hammer.

Whoever built this or had this built knew what they were doing.

This is my new carry piece.

Their not THAT rare. GunBroker has a few up right now, most are in pawn shops in BFE collecting dust because most people go "forty-ONE?!? what the heck is that?"

Yeah, $600 if it was excellent condition, maybe.
There was no one thing that killed the 41, but when you factor in everything it was doomed pretty much from the start. If it had been named the 41 police, if Remington had been able to produce enough ammo to keep up with demand, if the popularity of the double stack 9mm hadn't exploded. All that aside, 41 mag is a great round and absolutly the best balance of power and controllability.
But as we see S&W learned from their mistakes when they introduced the 40 S&W.

Spread .41 awareness, don't let this endangered cartridge go extinct!

$600 for a model 58, in todays market, really isn't that bad of price. One of those supply and demand things.
I've been looking for a Model 681 (fixed sight 686) and they are as much or more than 686's.

It was like 90-95% conditions. I just cant get love for 686, but I am hunting for a 3" 65.
