Other users cannot view your rep comments or total points; they just see the little bars.

    2. I got a rep that is purple and wanted to know what that means (all my others are green :D)

You sure it's purple and not gray? Gray rep comes from new users who have not amassed enough rep of their own to make the rep they give out worth any points. IOW, it is neutral.

so this not to beat this to death just tryin to understand

    from faq

    "Each
    reputation_red.gif
    or
    reputation_green.gif
is worth 100 points (negative and positive, respectively), each
    reputation_redh.gif
    or
    reputation_greenh.gif
is 200 (after the first one), again, negative and positive, respectively, and each
    reputation_gold.gif
is 300 (again, after the first). The
    reputation_gold.gif
is positive only. You can have up to five of each "pip", then you get a
    reputation_redstar.gif
    or
    reputation_bronzestar.gif
and the whole thing starts all over again"

i have 12 + dark green ones and +1 gray ( or purple as i see it ) +0 negative so wouldnt it be 1200 pts

but my thing says 153pts ??

just tryin to wrap my head around it cuz im bored

The pips in your rep list are not worth 100 points each. You're looking at the wrong pips. The ones in your rep list are just positive/negative/neutral. Each person who reps you grants a different number of points depending on a bunch of factors.

You should be looking at the two pips under your name on the left hand side of any post you've made.

Your 12 green ones are just 12 members that gave you positive rep - each of those members give you a different number of rep points based on several factors pertaining to their rep, length of membership, post count, etc. If each of them gave rep with a weight of 10 points, you would now have 120 points. If your next rep was from someone who gave 60 points per rep, you would be up to 180...

The pips and badges under your name represent the total of points you have received.
    That's the difference.
