Yep. Additionally, I find his opinion that servicemen/women ought to have special consideration for the opinions they hold of more importance than mine misguided. They have my gratitude for their service but they do not achieve a special rank as citizen for doing so.

I think the guy has a serious problem. I'm not even sure he believes what he is saying, but is trying to appease those who are supporting him and will vote for him. The problem is, whatever you do to get in officer is what you will need to do in order to stay in office. He will only get worse. I would not vote for the guy or trust him to advocate for our Constitutional rights.

Streak, I've been taken to task on INGO in discussions concerning military personnel and I still believe that anyone should be judged according to their actions and whether they were on SEAL Team 6 or a cook, that doesn't automatically make everyone person in uniform is a supporter of our rights. For many it only means a paycheck and some pretty good benefits.

If he truly feels that way about us lowly peasants having so called assault weapons he is a friggin dirtbag. I don't care if he served or not, does not change who he is. I still don't think that being in the service qualifies any for any special treatment, but then again if you treat others as you wish to be treated there really shouldn't be an issue.

As far as biggest mouths? Eh, well I've never heard anyone from the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard demanding special treatment.

Again, is joke. I think biggest mouth goes to the fellows who haven't served but like to say they did. Streak - he did NOT earn his right to an opinion MORESO than anyone else here.
We are citizens of this country and as such all have the same rights. The fact that he put his neck on the line earns him my gratitude for his service. It does NOT earn him my agreement with his opinions, nor does it insulate him from my contempt for those opinions should they run contrary to mine.
Therefore I think that he is totally in the wrong and based on his opinion and stated desire to take away the rights of free Americans , I believe him to be an egotistical ass. For the record, I believe John McCain to be worthy of our gratitude for his service, both in Vietnam and for many years afterward. That said, I believe that he has become an addled and possibly corrupt old fart in the Senate that at this point may be doing more harm than good.
The reward, if such there be, for service, is gratitude. Nothing more , nothing less. This is not the Cult of Personality. One's opinions and approaches to government must stand on their own merit.
