George Huening of Wold Class Pistol and 2x Indy Car winning Chief Mechanic as been quietly building some pistols again. It is great to have him local and to be able to call him a good friend. There are a couple of GH2 custom pistols that George has recently built that are being used in competition. But this represent something very different, from the recently released and on Newstands now from the magazine "The Complete book of the model 1911" is a build that George did for a fellow racing guy that they are calling a "Retro Hot Rod", using parts from a 1920 Colt, new frame and slide and hand made parts and in 9x23 is this one of a kind 1911.

You mean it's possible to have a great 1911 that looks fantastic without tarting it up with laser etching and grips that look like the Sunday comics? (he said in mock surprise)

    Nice

To me, many "custom features" are just there to cover up mediocre machine and finishing work. If you do it right, simple elegance is more beautiful than all the add-ons.

Manufacturers also like to heavily grit blast areas to hid tool marks, like Colt does on their Delta Elites. But this pistol? It shows how it should be done. That is beautiful.

Thanks for the kind words. There was a bit of disconnect when I sent this pistol to Turnbull for the final finish work. The owner of the pistol was the contact with Turnbull. I was led to believe they would polish the entire pistol to a high degree. If I knew they would only mirror polish the round sections I would have put more elbow grease into it. All in all, it turned out pretty well.
