The Duty Coat finish is about $300 more than stock stainless, but the finish is damn near impervious to wear and since I am actually shooting and carrying mine (cough cough Mr. only a 100 rounds) I figured it would be a worthy investment.

I've read about that and have considered it, even though I prefer the look of stainless. It'll be nice to meet up with you both to be able to check out both versions. Also, it'll be a while before I can save up enough to pick the gun up, so I have time to decide... :):

I'm with you, I'm a total stainless nut. But that Duty Coat that Dean has is supposed to be darned near indestructible. I put a partial idiot scratch on mine the first time I field stripped it (and I'm still sick about it). Not saying you couldn't do likewise with the Duty coat, but everything I've read and heard about it makes it sound like it will take a beating before the finish gives way.

Yep, exactly my thoughts. Then again, I think, do I really want a nearly indestructible finish that I don't like as much as the stainless? :dunno:

Bass N' Bucks is one of our favorite shops, nice people, though I do call Glen an enabler sometimes! We were out for a motorcycle ride today and stopped in there, i've been trying to stay away! Ordered my bucket list gun, the DW Valor. I told my husband we were in trouble when he pulled in there...but really i've missed going there, too!

Sights are clear and crisp featuring Heine straight eight sights with a ledge on the rear sight for one handed manipulation of the gun.

Dan Wesson no longer uses Heinie sights. That sight is made by Dan Wesson and called the tactical ledge.
Same sight on my specialist. I am rather fond of them and bought 2 of them last week for a couple of my Colts.

Dan Wesson definitely makes a nice 1911.

Thanks! I have an old DW .357 revolver that is well-worn, but accurate and fun to shoot. I've wanted a DW 1911 for a while now. :)

Make sure to get the duty treat finish it is worth the extra money to get, and be wary of the Stainless framed ones apparently in the 150XXX serial number range the stainless guns have had some galling issues. The duty treat guns do not have this problem.
