A friend and went shooting at Pop's this afternoon. He had his semi-auto and I brought my S&W 19. Great fun and by the end he was talking to himself about getting a real handgun.

About 15 years ago, a K-9 / SWAT on Plainfield PD, and I, went shooting in a junk yard...he, with his department issue Sig Sauer 9mm and I with my Ruger GP100 and SP101 in .357mag. After than outing...he picked up a (nice) Ruger stainless Security-Six, 2.75" in .357mag and got qualified with it as his off-duty weapon. Why? Because...well, 'DANG' (it just got the job done!)

Now that's just not fair. The older K frame S&W's were the perfect balance of size, comfort, looks and power. Not to mention one of the best factory triggers.

No plastic gun will ever compare to a finely machined and handfitted steel revolver.

How true.... just like the old Garands and M14s (wood and steel) compared to the ARs etc.....

I like them all listed above, and I usually carry either a G19 or a 1911, I guess im good with both.... but I also prefer and appreciate the craftsmanship in the steel and wood.

You might not appreciate it so much if you were the one lugging it around a hot tropical island and all you had were 5 rounds...

At the last gun show I went to, I went to a table and picked up some old rifle like that and handed it to my buddy. He actually went "oomph" when he told the entire weight.

Then we walked down and I handed him one of the new plastic ones.

I never even said a word. The point was made.

I have the utmost respect for those guys who actually had to use those beasts...

well who can deny....plastic and metal both have their own application. i happen to love revolvers (made by ruger) but sometimes when i carry in the summer....it would be nice to lighten it up with some plastic. however, a long day at the range can take a toll without some weight to tame things a bit
