As I arrived to vote early today, I noticed the no firearms sign on the door. I've been there many times without having noticed it. This sign is quite ironic as this is the building which hosts the local gun shows.

Saturday 27th of April 2013, at the Kuhlman Center a Friends of the NRA dinner will have firearms onsite. My understanding is that the no firearms rule is lifted for special events.

Some punctuation might help me understand your question.

Being unfamilar with it, I have no idea if this is public or private property. If it's public (e.g. city or county owned), then their prohibition is in violation of state preemption laws. If it's private, then you would be considered trespassing, which is unenforceable while you are voting.

So...the signs are illegal preemption of state law?

I hesitate to make that declaration, although you could be correct. It certainly is ironic at the least to have an "Absolutely No Weapons" sign on the door as you enter a gun show. Also seems like a violation of your rights to see that same sign as you go in to exercise your right to vote.
