Got a new Ruger 22/45 Slab-side earlier this week, and took it out to give it a shakedown today. Shot really great, feed everything and was accurate, to a certain point. Around the 120 round mark, I put up a new shoot n see target, and went back around 15 yards. Checked the target after 10 rounds and saw no hits!!!!! Nothing on the target. After wondering what the hell I did wrong, I noticed the rear sight had slid all the way to the right. I was able to push it completely off. Made a call to Ruger, customer service rep said that they would send me a new sight next week. Guess the stock one was undersized for the dovetail. Guess i'll tap it on when it gets here and try it again.

Anybody else have a similar problem, and if the new sight doesn't hold, will loctite or a similar product hold sufficiently? Hope they didn't make the slide's dovetail larger than it should have been.

Looking directly down at the rear sight, do you see a small screw on the left? The is the locking screw and if that is loose your rear sight will be loose. I used Blue Locite on the locking screw and haven't had anymore problems with a loose rear sight.

I forgot to mention that my sights are fixed, not adjustable target sights. Mine are just wedged in the dovetail only, with no other set screw to hold them in the groove.

I had a similar problem with some fixed sights & being of a impatient nature and access to a small machine shop,I drilled & tapped a small grub screw into the center of my rear sight & worked out great(It was a older Argentine Colt 1911 W/ military sights & the new 3 dot sights were a tad smaller than the dovetail cut)

    Ruger rear sight?

On a new gun this should not happen?:( What I would do, after contacting Ruger to ***** about it, is center punch each end- front+rear of the sight itself, and re-install back into receiver. A good, small center punch will raise a dimple in the metal of the sight, and will be tight when re-installed into the receiver.
You could send the gun back to Ruger also but you will have the turn around time without the gun+if they replace the receiver, it probably will have a different serial # on it and you will have to do new paper work on it..
To me, if you like the gun+all else is ok, I would just tighten up the sight--but that's just me=I'll fix things if I can....Bill.;)

I'll see how tight the new sight from Ruger is when it gets here. If that one falls off, i'll try one of the above suggestions. Thanks for the info. I'm pretty impatient myself and don't want to send the gun back if I don't need to!!
