"According to Ruger's site, the .22 only came in 4.2" barrel length..."

Bzzzzt! Thank you for playing. The SP101 may now only come with a 4.2" barrel, but I have a 2" .22 SP101 I bought years ago in my safe. I think it's really 2.25", but close enough.

Ruger discontinued the original 22 SP101 years ago. They offered them in a 4 and I believe 2" barrel. Ruger reintroduced the 4" 22 cal SP 101 not long ago but with the panic buying since December like all makers can't keep up.

I know they are discontinued but I would see at least one at the 1500 every time I went. Did everyone decide to hold onto them hoping the value would go up?

I don't know if it was that or just the fact that they were neat little guns!

I recently looked up a new SP 101 22lr and it was pretty expensive. I like Ruger revolvers, but when I can almost buy two M&P 22's for the same money I pass.

I know what your saying when you can get a M&P or Ruger 22/45 for 300 ish. But beauty cost more! That said the M&P's are not Revolver! Revolvers rock, you don't need mags you will never wear it out and it will never jam unless something really goes bad!
