"As a result, the trade surplus in 2023 amounted to $50.2 billion, compared to $238 billion recorded in the previous year."

They're still pulling down a surplus.

Things have settled out after the sanctions disruptions and prices have dropped, especially considering the price cuts they had to offer to get India and China on board as buyers. As I recall, the sanctions were claimed to be "destroying the Russian economy" and "making Russia a global pariah". Clearly neither of those things have happened.

It’s a real shame that Russia has lost several landing ships, their only carrier isn’t operational and the VDV (airborne) units have been decimated. They probably should pack a lunch if they want to attempt to retake Alaska. Might be a long day.
Yeah, I don’t know what Putin is smoking, man.

This article calls Ukraine a democracy.
I thought it was a dictatorship because el presidente declared martial law a long time ago, and is refusing to have elections.

    • US aid for Ukraine has been blocked since Republicans voted down a security package in December.
    • It means the US can't repair weapons it sent to Ukraine, the Pentagon's press secretary said.
    • Ukraine has had to scale back its war effort since US support started drying up.
The Pentagon said that US weapons are faltering in Ukraine because it can't help the Ukrainians repair them.

Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Patrick Ryder commented on the development during a press briefing on Tuesday.

Ryder explained that at this time, the US can't help Ukraine "sustain systems that we've previously provided to them."

He didn't give specifics about what weapons were in need of support that the US couldn't provide.

Last year, the US military led a team to help Ukrainian forces with repairs while fighting on the front lines over the phone and via video chats.

    From a facility in Poland
, the team made up of soldiers, civilians, and contractors from the US and its allies gave Ukrainian forces on the front lines hardware support in real time.

But repair assistance can't be provided without further aid from Congress, Ryder said.

"And so, again, we will continue to work closely with Congress and urge supplemental funding as soon as possible," he said.

Yes,give them another 110 billion, so the US forces in Poland can continue zoom meeting with those on the front line in Ukraine(probably more on how to operate something than guiding repairs).

During an interview with Business Insider last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that a lack of Western support would lead to a shortage of artillery, a "very large" shortage of air-defense missiles, and a lot of killings and injuries.

"Ukraine will struggle, Ukraine will be weaker, and this will be an opportunity for Russia to invade us," Zelenskyy told BI in the interview, a group conversation that also featured other outlets.

Act now on this one time deal, for a limited time. Give Ukraine more money so they have the opportunity to stop Russia from invading. You must understand the whole world will be Russian if you do not give Ukraine more money, troops(Just all men 18-60), and every piece of hardware you have(Zelesnki was heard asking if his new presidential plane had arrived yet, sorry it is several months behind schedule, but his wife has use of his old one! What is a dictator to do!).Or else Putin will be fighting NATO!

"And as soon as they have invaded us, believe me, it will be a war between NATO and the Russian Federation.Zelenskyy said while at Davos last week"

Well...sorry EU. We will no longer be sending you any LNG (as Victoria Nuland said "fk the EU). Oh, and Biden says sorry but DEEEE Climate changed!

Henry Kissinger once said, "To be an enemy of the US is dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal."

The good news of that is Natural gas prices will tank in the USA....for a time. Until they shut down enough production, then it will spike back up. The bad news is we just stabbed the entire EU in the back, and they will have to get LNG from somewhere else(or NG from oh say a pipe line).

“When we fight, we win,” said Roishetta Ozane, a frontline leader from Louisiana and founder of the Vessel Project, who was helping organize a protest at the Energy Department next month expected to be attended by hundreds as part of an effort to put a stop to the permitting of LNG facilities.

Opponents of massive export terminals, such as one planned by Venture Global LNG Inc. in Louisiana, argue the infrastructure ensures the use of fossil fuels for decades to come and presents a litmus test for President Joe Biden’s commitment to fighting climate change. Among those who have taken up the cause in fighting the Venture Global project, known as CP2, is environmentalist Bill McKibben, who successfully led a push to block the Keystone XL pipeline a decade ago.

“This pause on new LNG approvals sees the climate crisis for what it is: the existential threat of our time,” Biden said

Well this news couldn't have come at a worse time for Zelensky.
    https://currently.att.yahoo.com/news/ukraine-says-uncovers-mass-fraud-225706554.html
This makes it even harder to demand foreign arms support.
More on the "mortar shells? What mortar shells??" or "Didn't kick back the 10% for the big guy" story.

5 Ukrainian officials arrested over theft of $40 million in war funds as Ukraine corruption persists

The funds were intended to purchase 100,000 mortar shells for the war against Russia
