Alright guys, after some issues with an anti-gun uncle, I've finally taken possession of a very dear family heirloom... It's definitely a First Model (1899-1901) because there's no ejector rod catch or lug under the barrel. The piece itself isn't much of a collector's item, the bluing is all but gone and there are many gouges in the metal along with some light rust and pitting (said uncle was neglecting it for years) that I hope to be able to clean up over the next few days. This was a working class gun, handed down from my great grandfather to my grandfather, and now I've got it! Functionally, the thing's perfect, I put about a dozen wadcutters through it over the weekend, but felt like the loads may have been a tad hot for it, so I forced myself to put it down.

So, what I'm wondering, anyone around here know anything about dating these things based on the serial numbers? All three stamps match and it's 227X. Any chance that was in 1899 or more likely 1900?

I can deliver pics, but it'll have to wait a day or two. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Not selling it, I know its monetary value, but it means way more than that to me.

    Thanks.
