I have seen 1 gen 3 in person. It was a 59-2 in average condition. I think right around $500. I have been wanting a gen 3 for a while now but cant seem to find them in person. I dont know what or where to look for. Any suggestions? Or is that 59-2 an deal. Not to sure by looking online. It seems all over the place.

The 59 technically a 1st gen model (generally two digits are 1st gen (59), three digits are 2nd gen (659) and four digits are 3rd gen (5906)). $500 is right in the generally range of values for a 59 which generally seems to fall within $400 to $850 depending upon condition, factory materials, etc. I find the Model 59 an excellent pistol. Pay particular attention to the aluminum frame. Some surplus guns have had LOTS of rounds. If it is actually a 39-2 and not a 59; they made a lot of them but pricing is similar depending on same.

Finding any 1st to 3rd gen "in person" is always a challenge.

Just to shake things up a bit and remind us all that all of the 2nd and 3rd generation S&W pistols derived from the 1st Generation pistols just like this mint Model 59 in my collection. I love shooting this pistol. All steel and metal and none of that tupperware or mim stuff to deal with. LOL!

looking online. The 39-2 looks like what I saw. I couldv'e sworn it was listed as a 59-2 at the shop, but I've seen more blatant errors in signage. I still want it. lol

If you see it in person and it indeed says 59-2 buy it and get it lettered by Roy Jinks which would tell you the history of the gun and if anything special about it which would be the case as it could be a prototype. More than likely though it's a 39-2, either way post pics.

Any word on the 39-2 or possible prototype?

Also kinda quiet on gb. Seen a nice 6906 with a buy it now of 299 and a 4505 but not many 4506's or 3913's.

I didn't get to go. The shop was closed on sunday when I was in town, and my wed. thing got pushed back to december... I might be back friday and saturday when I pick and drop my daughter up from her mothers. I did pick up my first cz today so i don't if I can get away with hiding 2 new guns in the same week. lol I have been thinking about it a lot though.

Tried my hand at a 5944 in about 90% or greater. Ended up going for 470 plus 40 ship and transfer fee. The seller on gb had a collection from someone who belongs to the Smith society. Had a bunch of nice uncommon/rare birds. Probably should of took a chance on the 909 they had as well.
