Searching the interwebs I see that there are several options in M&P bb guns, and air-soft guns. Some have been discontinued for reasons I cannot figure out. My main purpose for purchasing one is to be able to train with it so that would involve shooting others and being shot. This would, I assume, make the high fps pellet options NOT safe. I'm interested in seeing any discussions, recommendations, or thoughts you guys may have regarding what to get or stay away from considering my purchase goals.
    1 must fit the S&W M&P 9 &/or 40 general shape and size.
2 must be a projectile &/or velocity that is suitable for force on force training (IE safe to shoot training partners with).
3 secondarily, if there are several options that meet 1&2 which of those most closely resemble the weight and feel of the real pistol. Secondarily because none of them are going to be close so I'm not going to make this a big deal)

    Please discuss.

MODS feel free to move, I couldn't decide if this is a training, accessories, or handguns subject matter. My motivating factor is for training so thats where I started it.

That is a military-simulation gaming forum that has a alot of replica weapons specialists and experts, I know airsoft has a pretty bad rep around RS circles but give that a try, the guys over there have tons of info and could lead you in the right direction.

Coach has an M&P airsoft, but I think it is spring operated not gas

I haven't found an M&P gas gun yet. The spring guns have a stationary slide, so realistic loading, stoppage reduction, etc., are not an option.

I purchased an M&P air soft at Meijer in Greenwood about 2 weeks ago. It is a CO2 powered non-blow back type. It is made by KWC and is the exact shape and size as my M&P .40 and almost the same weight as the M&P without a load mag. The balance of the airsoft gun is not the same. It is not very accurate but it might be the bb's. I have seen the airsoft bb's hook in all directions while shooting it. I hope this helps.:dunno:

If you used the BB's that came with it, or .12g bb's then that will definitely be an issue. Believe it or not there is a huge difference in the accuracy of bb's depending on weight and manufacturer. However, cheaper pistols/rifles will not be as accurate due to cheap parts.

No argument there! I bought it for backyard fun more then anything. I did buy the .12g bb's and after I use them up I will look for heavier bb's.

tagged because I want to see if a good website comes up to find a Glock Airsoft that isn't too expensive for the same reasons. I have been thinking about this for awhile since there are not really a lot of ranges around Bloomington.

"redwolfairsoft.com" is located in Hong Kong, so their shipping costs will be around $30 a gun.

If you guys are looking for decent gas pistols for training, I suggest the KWA/KSC line. Many models can be found on airsoftgi.com for $100-$150. If you are going to buy an airsoft gun for training purposes, I suggest you spend at least $100 for a reputable gun. Same thing in the airsoft world: buy cheap and you get crap. Don't expect the rubber seals in a cheap gun to last more than 2 years without being properly lubed often. On the other hand I've had my KWA USPc for 6+ years with regular maintenance.

No, KWA does not make a S&W M&P. I can't find one except the model on airsoftgi.com. It is a Non-Blow-Back, so the slide doesn't cycle each shot (which isn't a big deal IMO). These designs generally last longer and use less gas.

Smiledoc, I suggest you just get an airsoft glock or whatever. I know you're missing some important things by training with a different style replica, but you'll probably be so appalled at the inaccuracies of any airsoft replica that it won't matter anyways.

Goodluck getting a Glock here in the U.S. while the trademark lawsuit is still in the court systems. You can't buy them new anywhere really, only used from other people and they're grossly overpriced because of that issue.

Personally I agree though, getting a gas blowback will be better than a non blowback if it's for training purposes, even if it's not your exact model.

Coach has a CO2-powered airsoft replica of the M&P that works quite well. The slide does not reciprocate when firing, but the upside is that more of the gas can be used to propel the pellets since none is used to cycle the slide. The end result is that you really know it when Coach tags you with a pellet (or 20). It is probably the most reliable airsoft replica I've seen in action as well, perhaps partly due to fewer moving parts.

He got it at Dick's Sporting Goods, but I've not seen one there in a quite a while.

Thanks rhino! Your brother was the one that originally informed me about Coach having one.
To speak to several other posts comments: I'm not concerned about the blow back option, it sounds like more moving parts to malfunction in an all plastic gun. How close the replica is to my real gun is also not a big deal at all, I put it on my list of "wants" only because if it is an attempt to mimic my S&W M&P then all my holsters and accessories will work with it also. It isn't so much that I want it to feel the same, as someone else mentioned it will feel different regardless.
Thanks everyone for their input, it has been educational.

Rhino, next I'll need an airsoft carbine rifle so I can train safely on my own. I'm waiting on a training class that uses real rifles but they can't seem to find a date to hold the class on. :D

Smiledoc, trust me the realism difference if you had the option of getting a KJW, Tokyo Marui, or KWA made pistol with an all metal body and frame would change your opinion of the blow back.

The slide motion doesn't make it exactly like a real handgun but very similar because there is felt recoil making you have to shoot in a very similar way. As different as it may feel when shooting, the non-blow back you're looking to buy will feel next to nothing like your real M&P, trust me. If there were more options, I'd have found them, sadly there aren't.
