There are a lot of good revolvers besides the 642, if you are looking for a good shooter it is difficult to beat a K or L frame

Nothing wrong with the 642 but, in 38, I am awfully partial to my Model 60...

Going to be hard to go wrong with a S&W revolver. As has been stated, I would go with a 640 over the 642 so I could shoot 357 or 38. My guess is, you'll find yourself shooting 38 the most.
