If he had to go, he couldn’t have picked a better day to do so. Years ago I was at an air show manning an MG-34 on an anti aircraft tripod, and he came in strafing at tree top level. I have a great B&W photo from that day taken from behind as he strafes me, with brass flying out of my MG-34. He actually dove so low, that when I watched a video of the attack, you can actually see his wing clip the radio antennae on a German half track. I heard that two pilots that day got in trouble with the FAA, but they left him alone.

I had the privilege of meeting him a couple of times and I can say that General Yeager was very unassuming, in spite of his many exploits. Around good guy and one hell of a patriot!

Rest in Peace General Yeager, and thank you for your service.

My grandfather on my mother's side was his PR photographer right after he broke the sound barrier. My grandfather was a military photographer in WWII and the Korean War. I have nothing bad to say about Chuck Yeager, but my grandfather traveled around with him, and did not like him on a personal level, I do know that much. I think they had some conflicting personalities. My grandfather has been gone 17 years, or I'd ask him more about it.
