Simple way of making your point and maybe winning

    Get their fax number.
Scan and fax a copy of all grocery receipts from other stores to them. Attach your own note explaining that these are sales they could have had, however you cannot shop in a store where you cannot be safe. Have your friends do this also.

never heard of a grocery store with a no guns sign. The only people that will stop is law abiding customers who care about gun rights from shopping there like yourself!

I occasionally go to the schnucks on the northside of Evansville off of First Avenue. I also drop by the one in newburgh. I haven't seen any signs that said no concealed weapons. I am curious where did you see this sign? I also don't know where else schnucks is other than in the evansville area.

In todays world, I think when you call corporate headquarters of any even fairly large company, asking about guns, you are opening a funny kind of quasi-legal can of worms.

The last two smallish companies I worked for had what appeared to be boiler plate no weapons agreements for the employees. These were outlined in a handbook fashion that seemed to be to protect the company from lawsuits. I can only assume that this is the modern day norm.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any corporate headquarters that is going to go on record telling you that you can carry, while their employees cannot. This would set up another possible legal contradiction.

Signs like that have no legal weight in IN. You can be prosecuted for tresspassing if they ask you to leave because they notice your gun and you refuse. And it would be kind of dumb to refuse.

I think the signs serve as some kind of voodoo good luck charm. Everyone, especially the corporations, know they mean little, but they stick them up to ward off evil, anyway..............

Still, informing the store you will be shopping elsewhere is a good idea, in my opinion.

Or shop anywhere, and keep the handgun hidden under cloth.

Stopped by the Schnucks at Green River and Lynch roads today. I couldn't find any sign saying "No guns." Still, I agree with sparky...keep the limp wrists from calling 911 by keeping it hidden.

I have been told that if it is posted "No guns allowed" it is not just trespassing, but criminal trespassing which is a felony. I will try to find some information to backup this claim.

I just carry very well concealed and have such an honest and innocent look about me nobody has a clue that I'm packing. Until they start having people wand you at the door don't worry about it.

You'll have trouble finding the information because it's not true.

There is an outside chance that a judge might rule that the sign itself constitutes your "warning" to leave the premises, but it's not a felony even if that's the case.

Failure to leave would be criminal trespass but from what I've found that is only a Class A misdemeanor.

AKSteve, I agree with you. I mean no offense to the guys who disagree, but why ask their permission to bully you? Its none of their damn business. Of course if you ask them about CC they will say no, its their CYA policy. I still revert to Steve's policy- shut the hell up and move on with your day. You don't need validation from them in order to live your life. Having said that, I agree with the guys who stop doing business there because they feel like they are compromising their values. If a business stands in direct opposition to something I support, well I don't want them to benefit from my sales. But for me, its strictly based on being pissed off, not bc I want to carry while shopping. If this store is right around the corner from my house and I need something while cooking dinner, you can bet I am going to stuff a pistol in my pocket and go buy it. Its not that I actually respect their signs hahaha, no believe me thats not it. I just dont want them to get any more of my money bc they are douche bags. But, if they are the cheapest store in town, or have what you want, etc, I guess shop away, with your gun of course. But, a lot of people suggest you dont support the enemy. Just my $.02.

Btw, I apologize for my foul language in the previous post. I guess I get a little excited sometimes. I don't mean to discredit douche bags by making comparison to corporate leaders who only care about their dollar.

The "no firearms" sign has no legal ramifications. IF they have a sign and you carry a handgun in there and somebody recognizes that you have a gun the ONLY recourse the store management has is to ask you to leave, AND IF you do NOT they can call the police and ask that you be arrested for trespassing. Likely though IF it came to that the PD would show up and verify that you have a valid license to carry a handgun, and then escort you out of the store.
In all honesty though, IF I was carrying and someone asked me to leave or they would call the police, I would probably leave without incident to avoid any confrontation / undesired publicity.
