Looking for a few suggestions to check out. I got the socom because I dont care for the 5.56, and I do not require the extra barrel length as where I live in mostly urban. I am thinking of something around the 100-200 meter range. I have a couple eotecs, but I dont like them on the m1a. I also Drilled the stock and installed a desert warrior cheek riser, so that is not a problem. I am thinking 2-4X power wise. And Yes, I can shoot iron sights

I'd try a pistol scope in the 2-8 variable range. Set it in some QD rings then mount it anywhere forward of the receiver you choose. You won't need to have it mounted all the time but you can carry it in your rifle case ready to go. See if Leupold or Nikon have what you need.
