    @ the corner of IN, KY & OH.
    For a 16" AR and that's the only one you have, I would go with a scope that starts out at 1x for close range stuff like home defense and max out at 6x or 8x depending on the size of your property. I have several in the 1-4x and a couple of 1-6x on my carbine sized AR's. My 18' - 20" rifles have more powerful magnification for presumably a longer range shot on smaller targets like groundhogs and coyotes.
    The 1-6x scopes I have seem to be the best "do it all" scopes I have.
    You could also go with a good red dot with a flip to the side magnifier, but I personally don't have any experience with those.
