Same ammo all year round. Do police departments change out their duty ammo depending on the season? No, no we do not. I personally carry 165 grain Federal HST in 40 S&W. Very happy with ballistics, and they are very accurate. I carried a 9mm for a long time before switching to .40, so I like the lighter, faster bullets. Nothing wrong with a heavier one, though. There are a lot of options out there, and it ultimately comes down to preference. Do some research, and find something you like.

    .
I don't change my carry ammo depending on the time of year.

But I do switch to tracer ammo when it gets dark out. This way I just spray in the general location then eventually steer my way in to the target. Plus with tracers I can shoot from the hip and this all comes in handy when I'm ****faced drunk. :n00b:

I carry the same type year round. I understand the thought behind it but a good reputable companies self-defense ammo should be fine.

Same all year for me. hollowpoint, fmj every other round.

I do not recommend carrying FMJ for defense.

Excellent points. I think I will start carrying tracers at night, too. Thanks for the advice!

And here I thought this thread was going to be about the few odd cartridges that the big ammo makers only make before deer season.

One of which is 30-40 Krag. I guess Remington only runs this caliber just before deer season.
