Anybody use self storage or mini warehouse facilities for storage? I've been thinking about shifting some bulk ammo and LTS food to a climate controlled facility. My interior storage is limited and this would free up space. Plus it solves the old eggs in one basket problem.

I know there are risks , limited access, etc.

ask savage eagle what he thinks about privae storage facilities, lol.

If you stick with the opposite of what he does, you'll be ok.

I have a hunting trailer filled with the wall tent, camping gear, extra dry foods stored off-site, if we lose the house, we're not totally SOL. Cache where-ever you can, but remember, in a power outage, and electronic gate isn't going to work. Watch where you tuck away your goods.

On the plus side, as an appraiser I have some "behind the scenes" knowledge of several facilities including past security issues, maintenance, etc.

We kept some items in a self store earlier this year. I seem to recall some verbage in the agreement/rules regarding the "type" of items, particularly of the "flammable/explosive" nature, so you would be limited in what you store. I agree with others on the board, there are probably better suited alternatives.

I was a district manager for a well known truck rental and storage facility once. Most self storage places state on the rental contracts that storage of any explosive material our ammunition is prohibited. Plus, I know first hand that these unites are broken into by the public and at times a few employees. So it would be a gamble.:twocents:
