    In state (Indiana anyway, state laws vary) = no problem. "Here take this." "Gee, thanks!"

    Out of state = FFL in the recipient's home state must transfer it to him/her.

    Money or no money makes no difference either way.

    So even if a relative is giving you a handgun (no monetary transaction), technically it should go to an FFL first?

    If it crosses a state boundary then yes you need a transfer thru a FFL in your home state. Whether money changes hands or not. Ownership is the key factor.


    Also as an Indiana resident you may buy/transfer a long gun thru a FFL as long as the other state shares a border with Indiana. But all handguns must go thru home state.
