Kind of disturbing to read if you have read the excellent book One Second After.

Senate dumps strategy to prevent EMP damage

The U.S. Senate has dropped a House-approved plan that would prepare the United States to defend itself from an attack from any electromagnetic pulse source – whether it would be from a natural solar flare or the detonation of a space-located nuclear weapon by enemies intent on destroying America's infrastructure, according to a representative who has raised alarms over EMP.

Wasn't it Clinton that shut down the Civil Defense program?

Sure as :poop: you can bet they have somewhere to go if it hits the fan. After all they're important and must survive to re-start the guberment.

ps. I wonder if they'll try to make it to the Green Briar hotel?
There's probably dozens of these buried somewhere.

Of course if he does do that, who has a portable welder? The doors and hinges are steel, right?;)

There would be armed guards posted on the outside to prevent
outsiders from attempting access to the interior, or to prevent someone from sealing the doors permanently.

    A good thought though.

If it gets that bad, can you imagine them drawing straws on who stays outside?:D If it's Carson's buddies they be climbing over each trying to get in before the door finally closes.

But yeah, you're probably right. Any legitimate shelter would have a standoff of a good distance from the door where guards would be stationed at least until the door was almost closed.

Can we sell California to pay for the EMP protection? Just a thought

I think we would have to PAY to get rid of Cali. Who would take it for free, you have to compensate them for taking it off our hands. I'm all for welding the doors shut once the guards outside die of exposer, but they surely have way too many exits in case something like that happens.

That is similar to a comment I made in another thread. Right now everyone is looking at illegal immigration as a major issue. In the event of a major problem,
such as no one gets their welfare checks, they may well move to another state to pick right back up there.

All of the fallout (re: unintended consequences) of a major upheaval will generate such a :poop: storm that will make the LA riots look like a family reunion.

Why should the taxpayers be on the hook for something that should be done by the private companies that own that infrastructure?

Probably because they are regulated by their PSC's (public service commissions). They can't raise their rates without going before the PSC to have the increase approved. If they do it as a means of protecting their investment in the transmission lines/generating stations it is a cost, which needs to be paid for. Even if the government mandated this level of protection it would still be passed along to the end-user as either a tax or user fee.

As I recall the LA riots, when the police flee, the animals start shopping/burning.
They burned everything down except the post office, and then lined up 2000 people deep on the first of the month to get their checks, and pi$$ed because the PO would not deliver them, because the mail carriers were getting shot at.

I am worried about the cities shutting down with all the animals in them.
Then the animals coming out in large roving groups, like the mongol hoards.
