My daughter gets the magazine SEVENTEEN. I was pleasantly surprised to see in the current issue (November, 09) an article entitled: GIRLS & GUNS.

The first page of the article showed a girl in her late teens, with a target range behind her, an NRA tag dangling from her belt, and a pistol in her hand. She was quoted extensively as it gave a nice story about her shooting background. Now, of course, there were the anti-gun arguments included in the article for balance, but overall the article was VERY POSITIVE and leaning strongly Pro-Gun.

The article consisted of the stories of about a half dozen girls, ONLY ONE STORY was negative and talked about how the girl's friend was killed in school by another girl who stole a gun from home and murdered her friend. All the other stories talked about positive aspects of guns in their lives, about having a gun for protection, about how shooting guns is empowering, etc. The end of the article had a small PRO-CON bit with 2 girls, each taking opposite views about guns. But as I state, the article was a very good one for gun owners, probably leaning 75% pro-gun balanced with 25% anti-gun.

I could not find a link to the story on the internet, but figured people would still like to know about a positive story anyway :yesway:

A quick check shows that the November issue highlights aren't up on their web page yet. Might want to look again when it is.

Yup. Go to their website and type in the site search "GUNS" and it does pull up a couple survey's about guns that your daughters can fill out. But the featured articles for November are not yet posted.

Well, my daughter is five so I don't think she'll be filling out any surveys yet....

I read in one of my sister's magazines years ago about women/girls self defense. The author suggested getting on your back and kicking because your legs are stronger than your arms...

Yes... LAY DOWN and kick when attacked.

I hope it's still on the shelves. I'm going to go buy a copy for my oldest daughters. They may only be 10 and 8, but I think that article might be a good one for them to read. I've never read the magazine, but would you recommend it for girls that young?

With articles like "how to please your man in bed." I would say no, but you could cut out the article or check the rest for inappropriate material. It's worsse than you would think.
