I saw someone mentioned tyler34 does it but he hasn't posted in a while. Who is next in line that does it? Looking for edge work on good steel.

    Thanks

I've been kicking around the idea of offering sharpening. I've got a Wicked Edge with the latest upgrades so I can match existing angles or regrind to a preferred angle. I have stones of 50/80, 100/200, 400/600, 800/1000 & 1200/1600. I don't have the ability to do serrated blades and can only touch up concave blades. Been trying to figure out what would be a fair price for the service.

If I remember correctly, Tyler charged a buck an inch on blades as long as he was just sharpening them. Regrinds were definitely more though. Seems like he did my Grayman Satu for under $20.

    That seems reasonable to me

    I have a Kershaw Asset I wouldn't mind seeing a bit sharper...

I am having the same problem. I PMed him about a week ago and haven't heard anything back, but would love to get my SR-1 sharper than it currently is.

If you end up sending your blade to phylodog please follow up with an update once you get it back. :)

How is the upgrade on the angles work? Worth the money or no?

I think it is. It's much smoother to operate, no more binding up. It's also extremely adjustable so you can match angles perfectly and the rods are just a hair larger in diameter so there is almost no play between the rods and the stones. The only thing they didn't supply with the upgrade kit was a longer stabilizer rod for long thin blades that flex when clamped in but I can deal with that and it wouldn't be too tough to make a new one.

Mike Billman of grindstone cutlery in fr.wayne does all my sharpening. Either on a diamond stone or a belt sander. He's been at it for 30 years and had all my work for at least 8.

Phylodog does awesome work. He sharpened my Junglas, Byrd, and Busse SJ's over the weekend. There razor sharp and ready to work. I highly recommend that you give his sharpening skills a try.

I have four strops I use to finish, the compound on the strops is 14, 10, 5 & 3.5 microns. It leaves a nice edge but isn't a high polish.

    $5 + $1/inch of blade
