I just ordered a Sharpmaker and added the ultra fine stones. I didnt get the diamond stones as all my blades are in good shape so far. Will I regret not getting them? What are they used for?

They greatly speed up the process if you have blades that need a lot of work or repair. You can always order them later if you decide you want them. They DEFINITELY wear out faster than the other stones. I have a Sharpmaker with the standard stones as well as the diamond and ultra fine. With patience, you can make a very dull blade razor sharp and almost polished. finish with a strop and you're gtg.

Looking into either buying or making a strop...
All my tools are inaccessible for the time being, so I might have to resort to amazon unless a user on here sells them :)

Saw a pic of a 4 sided one... that looks like the way to go!!
