I had an opporuntity to try out a coworkers Sharps 25-40. As this was my first time shooting an AR platform I'm not sure what to think. I probably shot 5-10 rounds. Seemed to be pretty nice. Does anyone else have experience with these? I'm planning to take the leap into an AR later this year.
    Thanks
    Jim

I would recommend starting with one of the more common rounds, but the 25-45 sounds interesting. I had an SSK 6.5 TCU for awhile and wish I would have kept it in case it becomes legal for deer in rifles this year. I took several coyotes with it and the only downside is every shot was an exit wound tearing up the hide.

For what it's worth, I'm with bstewrat. The 25-45 was designed to be a barrel only replacement on the AR. What that means to me is low cost cartridge change if you desire.

The short story... If you want an AR get one but get it in 223. The ammo is readily available and less expensive than 25-45 (oh yeah, then there is the reloading thing...). Since it appears that you are new to the AR platform, see if you really like it by shooting a few thousand rounds. Then decide if the 25-45 is for you.
