On the dirtiest brass my ultrasonic cleaner removes more carbon and oxidation than just tumbling. At this point it will be very clean, but not very shiny. To get it very shiny it will need approximately 10-15 minutes in a tumbler.

Stainless steel media tumbled with dish washing detergent & lemishine in a thumler's rock tumbler. Search online for stainless media tumbling to find out everything you need to know. Nothing gets brass cleaner or shinier.

My wife has a ultrasonic jewelery cleaner .
    Will this work ?
She doesn't use it much anymore so I might be able to get away with it .

It probably will be way too small to do many cases in. You might get 20-30 cases in one of those.

SS media is roughly 45 bucks for 5-10 lbs depending on supplier

What's the cheapest way to go with SS media?

No way to do that to my knowledge unless you can make the tumbler yourself and maybe the pins too. Once invested however, you are set. I don't see buying more media as the 5lbs they sell is way too much for what is needed, I use about 3lbs during a cycle, so that's another 2lbs to make up for lost pins, which is inevitable.

~$255 for everything at Stainless Steel Reloading Supplies | Tumblers, Seperators, Media & More!

They also have the best prices I've seen on the tumbler and media.

Wow...didn't know there was such a thing.

+1 on the stainless, it is way faster and with better results.
What kind of time are we talkin' here?
I usually dump brass in the tumbler at night...and take it out in the morning.

Can you use regular tumbler with ss media?
    Yeah, that ^.
From what I've read, no. You have to have the rotary tumbler because you have to add water, soap, and lemi shine detergent to it. Stainless Steel Reloading Supplies | Tumblers, Seperators, Media & More! has the kit to get started with for $255.
    Argh.

An hour or two. One thing you do have to look out for is over-tumbling because the detergent will break down and cling to the brass along with all the dirt. I have a timer I set for mine to avoid this.

Hmm... when I get some dedicated space, I may look into this.
Currently, I can't stow one more piece of equipment.
(My reloading time consists of setting up a bench from scratch, bolting everything down, and then tearing it down and stowing it all away. That's a big chunk of storage space, as it is.)
    I'll remember this, though...

Stainless is meant to be used with a rotary tumbler, a rock tumbler, or in my case the RCBS Sidewinder. Though I have read that guys have used it in vibratory tumblers, but the results are not nearly as impressive.
