I have hiked every trail in the park and about 10,000 miles on the AT. I have had many bear encounters with no consequences. I do carry firecrackers for the noise factor, just in case one comes around at night. Seriously, millions hike in the Appalachian mountains every year with no problems.

True...but millions of people also drive their cars to work on a daily basis without being carjacked or walk around town without being mugged.....but it doesnt mean it doesnt happen and doesnt mean you shouldnt be prepared just in case...just my .02.

Here now and I have seen 2 bears(one from the car and one on the trail).

Made me a little nervous on the trail and scared the crap out of my wife even though she didnt see it.

She is onboard for new guns for woods carry for both of us:)
