    Hi Folks,
Just looking for a decent load for Shotgun Target practice with a home defense 12ga. 18.5” smooth Barrel.
Is a steel BB load bad or hard on the barrel of your shotgun?
    What are your recommendations?
    Thanks

Steel is not bad or hard on your barrel. That said, I would be hesitant to use steel for target practice. Steel shot is wicked in the ricochet department when it hits hard objects. Save your steel for fowl and stick with lead for target practice.

If you're going to be doing high volume practice, yes, steel shot could be hard on your barrel.

Of course that depends on the properties of your shot, your barrel, and how hard you're pushing it. You may never see any barrel damage.

I don't see why the old adage of "train with what you carry" doesn't apply to your situation.
