    I used to have an Ithaca 12 Ga Featherlight. Shot it about 50 times one day and it like to have killed my shoulder. I was bruised for quite a few days afterward. I was young and spry then too... And yes, I did know how to shoulder my firearm.

    While this pic is a bit extreme and yes, he's probably shouldering the weapon improperly, now that I am older, I appreciate my 20 Ga much more than a 12. It's just as effective IMHO.

    20's are nice and

    Make for good home protection too. But I would suggest that you keep it tight to your shoulder and use "target" rated shotgun ammo :)

    I've had minor shoulder bruises with a .308 bolt and a 12 with 3" shells, but it didn't so much hurt as color up. That on his arm isn't an impact bruise; it's more of a hematoma from a vein that's been ruptured. I've had that, too, but in a, um... different location. If he did that with a shotgun, either he was doing it severely wrong, or has a vein in the wrong place.
