    Since the dupe thread was locked, I wanted to make sure that this bit of wisdom made it here:

    I just want to point out a matter of situational awareness:

    An off-duty officer was working there, and by experience, I know that they park their car(s) out front, plainly visible. (Sometimes they have more than one working, and the vast majority are marked vehicles.)

    I hate to assume, but the cards tend to tip to the fact that mopes know the cops are around - or conversely, are too stupid to know the cops are around, but I hedge on the former. So basically, this mope knew there was a cop working there and STILL decided to shoplift, and then DECIDED to pull a gun on the officer for arresting him for a presumptive misdemeanor (less than $750 total value - which is usually the case).

    OR;

    He was so stupid that he didn't know the officer was working there, either by lack of observation or lack of experience, and was caught by surprise and STILL decided to try and shoot his way out of a misdemeanor.

    Either way, this is the current mindset of even petty criminals these days. Put this into perspective regarding target selection and how it applies to you, your family, your home and your travels.
