    Hmm very unlocalized behavior ?

See for you City folk you might not understand some thing’s?

In a small town we have police that drive around all the time not much goes on and it doesn’t take long till they know just about every car and person in town, the Sheriff and his people do the same Almost all law enforcement people are born and raised in the area and everyone knows all kinds of stuff on others.
Law enforcers can tell you a list of people that are trouble off the top of their head where they live who they hang with and family.

If you live in a small area and do dumb stuff like have a shootout at Walmart you will normally be found out quickly somebody will talk and somebody will turn you in.

I bet two cheese burgers that was outsiders!

I agree. I'm in the the county to the west and this is not typical. Somebody will talk if it was local.

I live 18mi from this Wally World. Too close for my liking but anywhere you go you'll just be moving into the path of the storm.

Standing my ground in the middle of nowhere. It isn't like the problem people will call you up and give you a 2 minute warning...

As a new resident to IN I have to say that in general it seems much calmer and safer out here. Someone asked the question if it's becoming more common to have random shootings, and the fact that it's only becoming common out here speaks to that point.
Not that this event isn't a bad thing, but it's an interesting observation that I still haven't quite wrapped my head around.

Don't be so quick to assume / presume that it's "outsiders" coming in.

The OC has a HUGE meth problem. Cookers and users. And everything in between. It's also one of, if not the poorest county in the state (historically speaking).

It's also very rural and I can guarantee that there aren't that many Sheriff's deputies on duty at any given time (which leads to rural issues) and I can also guarantee that the Paola PD also isn't very large and also doesn't have that many officers on duty/on patrol at any given time.

The OC's problems aren't specific to the OC, either.

And yes folks, that's how the locals pronounce Paoli. :D

Leadeye mentioned in another thread that they had had a drug problem in his rural neighborhood. Apparently, the meth cooking set their house on fire. The meth heads moved along after their house burnt down.

Not long ago I read a news story where a guy from Salem got busted out in the Fort Ritner/Sparksville area selling meth. I’m afraid where I’m from isn’t where I’m from anymore.

That's true, and the transformation was remarkable. Traffic on the road, especially the speedy, weaving type, dropped to nothing and trash along the side is gone. After they left the local law showed up with a Bobcat and turned the place upside down. I went down there to ask what was going on as my land nearly surrounded that area and was told to leave. Crime scene, was the only explanation I received.

You have that in Orange County. One of my best friends is a lifetime resident down there and has mentioned more than once the influx of larger city types there. The French Lick casino is in OC and I'll bet that has brought in its fair share of problems.

I grew up in French Lick and it has never been a bastion of lawful behavior; drugs, prostitution, gambling were mainstays for many years, saw a lot of it first hand. I don't think the current casino has added any nefarious behaviors that weren't already in heavy rotation.

Drugs are a huge problem. This will get worse before it gets better.

All the while, we become complacent while states intentionally break federal laws until it becomes routine. There are even good people among us who believe more illegal drugs in Indiana are better. :dunno:

If only our .gov would spend billions, no, TRILLIONS of dollars and fight this drug problem.

Maybe even come up with a catchy name for it?

IDK? Maybe call it, "The War on Drugs".
    :dunno:

That would surely make things better.

There are plenty of good people who believe that prohibition rarely achieves the desired results. No matter whether the prohibited object is a liquor, a drug, a firearm or a dreaded "high capacity" magazine.
