I've seen handstops mounted on shotguns forward (to help with push/pull) and rear (help pump the shotgun). I was just wanting opinions on what everyone here thought of each way and which *may* be better.

If it matters, assume its on a stereotypical HD (pump) gun.

I always thought the Mossberg nylon strap on the forearm was a good idea. Simple yet effective.

If you put some type of rail on you could always tinker with VFG or even AFG.

If I were to get a VFG i'd hold it like I would with a AFG or handstop. However, I'm heard people not liking the AFG on pumps. Besides I'm trying to keep it as "clean" looking as possible.

Hmm I've seen that technique before but forgot about it. Seems if I got that set up then I could try out several things anyway.

Does anyone have any insight on whats perceived as "proper" technique?

I don't know about "proper technique, but I think you are right, the Larue ones would allow you to try it in anyway that would work for you.
You could even put one in front and one behind your hand and have the same idea as the strap but without the actual strap it's self.
