Here is a picture of my truck docked this past Friday. It is a 2016 KW cabover with a 26' box It looked so good in there I had to take a picture. I have been driving it for 6 weeks now. Oh how I love my new job. -Jason

Finally got our new T680 in. It has the new X15. 550 hp and 2050 lb ft of torque. It sure pulls better than any of our previous trucks. It makes the 126,000 pounds feel like 80,000.

It also has a 13 speed Eaton Ultra Shift +. I don't care for it. I'd rather have a real manual 13 speed. But I ain't paying for it.

Not saying it's a bad engine. But the old and trusty N-14 is a bullet proof motor. 1.3, 1.5 heck even 2 million miles before a rebuild is needed. The new (2010 and newer) emission engines are a crap shoot. You might get one that goes 750k without any serious issues. And you might not. Of all of our trucks in the past 6 years, 1 in 5 has serious emmision related failures. And about 25 percent of those are never repaired because the dealers have no idea what is wrong.

We had a 2013 with 250k miles on it. It spent 7 of the 12 months in the shop. If there hadn't been a warranty, the bill was over $40,000.

The engines will get there eventually. Look at the 80's and early 90's cars and all of the emmision nightmares we had with them. Now they are great. The new Detroit DD15 is almost there.

    Hey BT,

I wish I could argue with the points you made but I can’t. All I can say is the industry as whole is getting better (I like to think Cummins is in the lead ) but, we've all learned a lot of painful lessons to getting to where we are today. I hope your new X15 backs this up.

The N14 was/is a great engine (especially the last generation ’98-2000). I worked on and drove a lot of them as a mechanic, working my way through school. Still quite a few of them on the road but, it’s getting tougher, as parts are getting harder to find (injectors).

Point taken on the DD15/DT12. Those bassturds have done a really nice job with it :).

I’m optimistic our new X12 will be just what folks are looking for, who can take advantage of its light weight, by putting an extra ~150 gallons of fuel in the tank (hint hint). 455 hp/1700 ft-lbs will hopefully keep it moving down the road (and the slosh under control. I’ve pulled an no-baffled tank just enough to fully understand the challenges).

Please keep us posted on how your new X15 treats you.

    Thanks,

    Craig

We've been running the 12L ISX in our regular (80,000 lb) trucks for a some time while our bigger trucks get the 15L. The smaller engine does a pretty decent job. Heck, we even use it to pull our three axle trailer which can gross 98k pounds.

Good deal. BUT, the new X12 is 600 lbs lighter than the old ISX12....

That will be a huge selling point. I'm pretty sure they will be in our smaller trucks soon.

Have you ever heard of this? https://www.pittsburghpower.com/meet-dorothy.html

I've followed the development of it forna little over a year now. The results are amazing. It spins the soot out of the exhaust like a Dyson vacuum cleaner. 1 mpg increase seems easy. Far fewer re-gens and a big decrease in DEF use.

09 Cascadia DD15 505hp 1750 torque , 13spd 3.42 gears 7.0 mpg including idle time hauling steel in the Midwest.

867,000 miles no major blowby uses a gallon of oil between PM,s she has been a hard worker but it's time to trade her in doesn't make sense to inframe a Freightliner.
I am looking at the Peterbilt 579s nice compact trucks the Paccar engine is about 10,000 less than the ISX.

A few from this week. I scaled out after loading ethanol on Thursday. I had over 3,000 pounds of ice and snow on my truck. I'm usually right at 127,000. I weighed a bit over 130,000 lbs.

1975 Dodge Bighorn. 262 made around 120ish still left. Came with air assist steering replaced with power steering. Have a 8000 lb. weight that sits on the back so I can drive it around bob tail. Hendrickson suspension tough but rough riding.
