I am wanting to get a full fledged target .22 pistol. I am interested in what my fellow ingoers have done. In my mind I see a buckmark with a holographic sight(subject to change depending on the deal). Any tips and pics would be appreciated.

I have a Buckmark and at one point I had two. However, I would never call a Buckmark a full fledged target pistol.

Though, in my mind a target pistol is what you use for bullseye or NRA standard pistol. For that, my first choice would be a 1911 with a custom trigger, target grips and a marvel conversion kit on it.

If I were to buy a dedicated gun, I would look at a Pardini SP, Benelli MP 90 or MP 95, Hammerli SP-20, Walther GSP and the like. Probably from Larry's Guns in Maine. I might get a an S&W 41 but I doubt it because I do not think they are worth the money.

The Contender has a super 14 bbl on it right now. It'll shoot dime size at 50 yds if I will. The 10" bbl shoots pretty darned good but not quite as good as the 14". The Ruger and the S&W 41 are both capable of inside a nickel at 25 yds.

I had a Toz35 that I just couldn't shoot very well. Was gonna rebbl to 17 hm2 but I let somebody talk me out of it for more than I had in it. I can't speak to the other imports, though I've heard some awfully good things about Pardini, Morini and such. I've also owned a buckmark Varmint with the long bbl which wasn't a bad gun. It was accurate enough. Just didn't fit me very well.

I guess target gun was a poor description. I want to build this gun as a cheap and fun race gun. Cheap to shoot and accurate. Something that I could improve the trigger on and try different optics easily. Thanks for everyones help.

In that case, considering the availability of parts, mods, etc....a Ruger Mark III is going to be your best choice. The 22/45 might also work, but there are fewer options for customization, trigger, etc.

That being said, if you do not like the grip angle of the Mark III, the Buckmark is a fine choice. I have one that I use for Steel Challenge, NRA International pistol and silhouette shooting. One caveat is there are fewer options for trigger mods, though you can get a rail for the top, longer barrels and grips. Avoid the Camper model - the sight adjustments are not as precise and the trigger on the one I had was not as good as some of the pricier models.

Here is what I have done to mine.... is as accurate as I can shoot... which isn't saying a whole lot. But I have put groups of 10 within 1" from 10yrds easy. Meets my needs for .22 steel fun!!!!

I have a High Standard citation with 5 1/2 inch bull barrel that I have shot loads of scores above 295 with and a few possibles thrown in. Bought it new.
I also have another Citation with 7 1/4 inch fluted barrel with the muzzle brake and both weights. We refer to that as fully dressed.
I also have a 6 1/2 inch Field King that I have shot wood chucks out to about 90 yards and it will also shoot 1 inch groups at 25 yards with about any ammo. It was made in the late fifties.
I love my High Standards. Have owned about 60 or so in my life. Wish I still had em all....John

I have not figured out how to post pics, yet. If they can only be loaded from photobucket, I will not do that. Won't put pics of my guns on there. Can they be posted directly from My Pictures file on my own puter?....John

I would suggest the Ruger MKII Competition or Government Competition, any of Browning Buckmark Target models or a S&W Mod 41. The Smith is not cheap but it is as accurate as most people can shoot and will last you a lifetime. I love mine. I also like my Rugers, Colt Ace and Colt .22 Conversion Unit. They all are capable of more accuracy than I am. :twocents:
