I've been bit by the sig bug, but I need some input from sig owners before I sink the money into one.

Are they really worth the 800+ that a new p226 is listed for?
    How do you like yours?

Just looking for input/discussion. Make me want a p226 even more

Yes, they are worth it. Does it do everything a Ruger P95 does... sure. But the $ goes into the fit finish and quality.

Not only that, but the 226 in my opinion is the best 9mm supressor platform.

If you are patient you can find a good price. They are outstanding guns. I picked one up in .40 at one of the 1500's last year for under $500. Used, but in great shape.

sigs are great guns and reliable 110%....I now have 6 and still wanting more...the 9 wiil last a long time...the great thing is you can find cheaper and if you don't like it ...resale value is still strong and you shouldn't loose anything.....

I just checked out gunbroker and saw them going from bids of 300-1000 with an average of 700-800. I saw one at PSS for 6something but she was WELL used (not that I have a problem with a used firearm but this one was beat pretty good)

I would prefer one in 9mm just for the ease of finding ammo

Sigs really are great guns. They are durable, reliable, and good looking.

I personally have owned a P226, P230SL, and a sig Pro 2009, but have had the pleasure of firing a P220 as well.
All performed well but to me the P226 was the "best".

As for the $800 price point, that is about what they are running for new, but used they can be found much cheaper.

Here is a used example I bought off of here awhile back, it was a West German P226 with night sights, box, two hi cap mags, one being aftermarket, and it had factory grips. I paid $480 for it, and aside from cosmetics, the gun was cherry. I will mention though, that the reason I keep referring to my P226 in the past context is because I sold mine. I kinda regret it...but to me the P226 is to big for my personal taste. However I would love to find a P228 one of these days.....

    Here is a pic.

Hey thanks for the head's up. But I am more interested in finding a non railed Sig P228. There are very few guns that are not made of polymer that I like having a rail on them...:D

Agreed with all posts thus far.

    1) My p226 Elite .40 is the best investment I've made so far. It shoots way better than I currently can and I'm sure it will be that way for a loooooong time.

    2) Resale is better than most other manufacturers.

    3) The p226 is a monster compared to other products.

    4) Fit and finish has no equal in the da/sa pistol world.

    5) It's a Sig...

I've been bit by the sig bug, but I need some input from sig owners before I sink the money into one.

I've owned 5 different SIGs over the years in .45, 9mm, and 380acp.

They've all been fine guns that worked like they're supposed to. Accurate, reliable, and ergonomic. No problems (although the finish on the older models was not very durable - I'd go so far as to say fragile, although this has improved in more recent years).

I'll be the dissenter here and say, no, they're not worth $800-ish (imho) when I can purchase something else that functions as well, has a more durable finish, and is more compact and lighter for $500-ish (new price).

My focus is more on function and the equivalent function can be had for significantly less. If you value asthetics and/or the SIG name cachet more than I do, it may be worth it to you (people do buy guns for different reasons and value things differently). I just have tools. As long as they don't give me any trouble, I don't care whose name is on them.

So, I'm as much a SIG fan as anyone, but I think they're overpriced for what you get. Just my :twocents:. Lot's of people will disagree and that's fine.

YES I LOVE THE SIG 226!!!! Its very nice to shoot!!

NO, I WOULD NEVER PAY $800 for one!!! because you can find them used for like $500 and sometimes lower, A LOT!!! Those things will run forever. 98% of people who own one will never break them in, and the ones who do, are Special Operations :)

get one, and you will never look back!!!

Like I said I'm not afraid of a used firearm (I've had a total of 2 new pistols in my entire life). I'm seeing a consistant number (under 600$) coming from most people in this thread.

As for the comments people have made saying the 226 is a monsterous handgun, I have pretty big hands so as long as it's not alot bigger in the grip than an M9 I don't think it'll be a big problem. I need to find someone close to me that has a 226 and would be kind enough to allow me to test drive one

Sigs are excellent shooting handguns. I recently let go a Black Water Tactical 226R that i dearly miss. Softest and most accurate 9mm I've ever put my hands on.
