ive got a 226 legion da/sa, and I can say, its the smoothest gun I own, when I pull the slide back, it slides like grease on glass!!!!, mine has the gray guns trigger and spring kit, and has a 6#da and a 3.1# sa pull, the sights are awesome, the trigger reset is awesome, the grips are awesome, the finish is awesome, come to think of it, everything about the gun is awesome, the only thing that isn't is that damn free case you have to send in for! it really serves no purpose!

if I had one complaint about my legion, its that I bought it (the 226) instead of buying a 229 sao legion (I got mine used for a hell of a good price), and if powerball or mega millions show me some love, the first gun i'll buy is an mp-5, then a sig legion 229 sao!

but here's my take on your situation, you are thinking tac ops or legion, you say the tac ops is too bulky, and its not an everyday carry gun, BUT that remark makes me think you'll carry it sometimes...so if you think you're going to carry it, and size matters to you, look at the 229 legion, both the 226 and 229 carry 15 rounds, so the only difference will be barrel length, and the 229 would be a little easier to carry, BUT not much.

but again my opinion (and opinions are like hemorrhoids every a$$h0le has one) the legions are the best handguns sig makes, and I really doubt that after shooting it you'd say "I regret buying that legion!"

Thanks for the insight, I’m likely to get the full size and I’d rather have the da/sa action as well but this is really helpful.

I like you was having the same debate when I was looking for my 226 I was torn between the stainless elite and the legion when they first came out. I went with the legion da/sa the trigger on the da pull has got to be one of the best factory da triggers I have ever felt outside of my cz’s. Either way you are looking at some solid guns all tac drivers.

Well, when I trained for the NPS, we were issued a standard P226 for training and by and large that was what they were using in the field. Of the thousand plus rounds we put through our pistols, I don't recall a single malfunction by the gun. We were using American Eagle 9mm. I liked the gun so much that I caved in earlier this year and finally bought one, but I got the Mk. 25 instead of a standard model. The Mk. 25 has a PVD coating of some sort that is supposed to provide extra corrosion resistance, specifically from salt water. Siglite night sights are a standard and they are very decent. A few minor changes were made externally as well, plus a picatinny rail was added.

My only problem with the Mk. 25 is that for some reason it does not seem to like Federal or American Eagle ammo. They do not cycle reliably. Other than that, I couldn't be any happier.

If it won't function with any factory 9mm ammo, there is something wrong with the gun or your magazines (or both).

Thanks, I appreciate the comment. I did check out a gun shop today and compared the legion and the mk25 definitely liked the way the legion felt. The attendant said he had a basic 226 but wished he had spent the extra on the legion.

I own a .357 Sig P226 Legion. I love it. Personally though I would go with the Mk25 if I was going to buy it again though. The smaller controls of the Legion may be a problem if you are of low skill level with a pistol. I would recommend the 9mm if you're concerned with ammunition costs though even in the Legion.

I took the P226 Legion SAO to the range. It is easy to forget just how smoothly that thing shoots when you don't take take it out often.

    Truer words...

MK25 for me. My best gun and it 'shoots better than me' as someone has said.

    Caveat-- a SRT is a must. $40 and 15-20min and you're GTG.

I don't own a Legion but my training partner does and she loves it.

I'm not sure the ROI is worth it, personally....but I've never heard anyone say they regretted having one.
I just don't care about the medallion or the 'club' thing SIG offers.
Personally, I think the SRT is plenty fancy enough.

If I had the dough for a Legion, I'd buy a DA/SA MK25 and send it to Bruce Gray for some real spiffing.

Sounds like you are trying to talk yourself out of the TacOps. :)
I'd agree- a bit bulky. But if it's a range shooter, who cares. "It ain't a crime to be good to yourself," as Paul Stanley says. Lol

    Long recommendation short-
MK25 with a Short Reset Trigger.

Picked up my P226 back in 2012 when I was still able to see open sights fairly well. The E2 grip fit me better than the original 226 grip. Mine has the SRT and night sights. Fired the above target standing from 25 yards with Hornady 124 XTP reloads. About the only negative of this P226 is the SA trigger might not be quite as crisp as the other SIGS I have owned.

    That can be remedied!

Almost every magazine fed handgun I own is a classic P-series Sig. I have multiple P220s, P226s, and P229s. I like the "Elite" iterations the best. I also stick to TDA guns, though, and can't really offer any input on the SAO models.

I do have a Tac-Ops without the threaded barrel, but swapped on Hogue G-10 standard length grips. That lets you use both the extended base plate mags and the standard mags, makes it easier to carry, and I didn't notice any change in ease of magazine swaps.

I like the Legion controls and grips, but I do not like the Legion sights. That's personal, as I'm colorblind and the dark green dot they use might as well be a plain black front sight in most lighting conditions to me. As far as "better trigger", it's a different trigger. If it's better or not is debatable. I prefer the Sig Custom Shop's AEP package to the factory Legion trigger, but you may like the Legion more.
