I'm currently researching uppers for a "future" 9mm pistol build.

Yes, this is in the rifle subforum - figure since it really is an "AR" question, I'd plop it here instead.

So - I'd like to have a reference on what all parts go into an upper.

I THINK I have a grasp on them all, but I'm sure there are small parts included in a complete upper that I'd probably miss should I buy things piece-meal.

Granted, I can probably buy a complete upper for a lower overall cost than I can build one...but who knows.

I've been given a few good resources on lowers / parts / assembly, but not an upper!

    Thanks!

    Annnnnd... I can't find it. :-/

    My google-fu sucks.

Ideally I'd want a slick-side upper (without the FA). *sigh*

Understand that it is a full breakdown, and with most pieces you purchase an assembly (charging handle, for example, will be a complete assembly with the requisite parts, pins, et cetera included.

Also, understand that you may not need all of the listed parts. A slick-sided upper won't have a forward assist assembly, as you likely know.

Thank you both for your links!

I'd been on the AR15.com link the other day, another friend emailed it to me. Sadly, though, there isn't much in there about uppers - other than installing / swapping barrels and rails. Which is still handy, just not quite what I'm looking for.

And Rooster - that link is probably just the ticked I'd need. Understood on "assembly" vs. individual parts!
