Is it much different today? It's not like we own the land our houses are on, we must pay tribute or it will be taken form us. We cannot travel any real distance without paying protection fees for identification, licenses or registration fees.

None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. -Goethe

If was wrong then, why is it ok today?

Slavery, no matter the percentage, is an evil and it doesn't matter how you dress it up. Working for the benefit of others without unanimous consent should not be tolerated. So called social contracts are nothing more than a kinder, gentler form of slavery. You may not feel your masters lash, but fail to give him what he wants and you'll suffer no less.

    Is slavery wrong?

    Modern liberals say no.

    Progressives say no.

    Statists say no.

    Socialists say no.

Even what passes for conservatives today say no.

I understand what the OP is saying and I totally agree .

I get so angry at this " f*** you society ( and all of it's cheerleaders ) , if you don't like the way it is around here , then QUIT '' .

I sometimes forget that we have a RIGHT to quit ..some people don't have that option

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

Slavery was and is a wicked institution. Comparing our present circumstances to real slavery is obnoxious.

I don't believe that taking someones work alone is the problem with slavery. The bigger problem was imprisonment, lack of any rights whatsoever, and living conditions that would constitute inhumane torture. Raping a black slave and then shooting her in the head in front of her children was not even a crime because humans were "property". Even if the government took 90% of my pay, I'd be better than a slave, because I could go home to my family after work, or even choose another employer.

A man is none the less a slave because he is allowed to choose a new master once in a term of years. Lysander Spooner

Could you go home? Seriously, without permission could you actually go home from work today? Permission- ID, Drivers License, car registration...

    Sure, we are 'free',

Speaking of work, can you work without permission? Can you feed your family without first getting permission to work for someone else? Or even work for yourself?

Tell me again about how you aren't a slave when you can't go home tonight or even get a job without permission.

Slavery is a wicked institution. Agreed.

At what percentage is it not wicked.

First you have to agree on a definition of slavery. I don't agree with this one. Run for Congress. Start your own business. Too many rules? Run for Congress, change them. Slavery? Oh come on! You know what my definition of slavery is? Being a captive of your own self fulfilling rigid thinking. I would suggest you are pissed off at the man. Be the man......I could put a smiley face here, but I don't feel like it. Another way to slip the chains? Get away from people that look like you, agree with you and try some new ideas. Leave the place where you were born and mix it up with the world and the world of ideas. Now, that's freedom. Rant off ramp........

The unfounded obligations under SS and Medicare amounts to over 335,000 for every man, woman and child in the U.S. Add onto this the budget deficit. Assuming fearless leader care is overturned you can expect the debt load to expand even more.

We are stripping property from our children and grandchildren and selling them off into economic slavery.

    Liberty indeed.

You can define the term "slavery" different ways.... but that doesn't mean they are comparable.

I get the point, but its a bit tasteless to compare todays conditions to those of the past imo
