Smallest I carry now is Kimber ultra CDP 45acp... looking at (someday) getting either: Kimber Solo 9mm or; Beretta Nano 9mm; or maybe small Glock.

Ruger LCP it is what I mainly carry in the summer.Works well only wearing shorts. & t shirt.
Better than not carrying at all !

I carry a KelTec P32 also. I have an extended mag w/ 10 rounds when concealment is not super critical, factory 7 round mag when it is. Loaded with Federal Hydroshocks. One of the best carry guns, IMHO, is the one that you have with you are going to have with you when you need it.
