At one point there was a company that made a barrel for the Ruger 10/22 that you could shoot arrows. Thought it was cool but expensive and tied up a 10/22.
Fast forward, I was looking around on the internet and found where someone was trying to use a Ruger MKIV upper to shoot an arrow. They posted a couple of pics and the wheels started turning.
Found a MKIV upper cheap, took it to our favorite Gunsmith (Allen), told him what I wanted and picked up today. Just gotta fire it. And I'm antsy.
This is final product before test fire

I was of the understanding that with fetching, an arrow will spin and stabilize its-self with in 10 20 yards after being shot.
I don't really care. Im gonna try it and see how it does for distance and a little accuracy. I just wanted something different. I can change the upper back to a .22 upper and I think I will still be able to use this upper also

That’s useless, insane and a complete waste of a perfectly good ruger mk4 upper!!!

Ps do you think that would work on a mk3 upper??? (Asking for a friend!)

    First question is, "why?"
    Second question is, "why not?"

So, for hunting purposes, does this count as a firearm or a bow?

Just out of curiosity, of course.
Pretty sure this is still a firearm in all senses.

    IC Section 35-47-1-5 - "Firearm"
    "Firearm" means any weapon:
    (1) that is:
    (A) capable of expelling; or
    (B) designed to expel; or
    (2) that may readily be converted to expel;
a projectile by means of an explosion.

IMHO, this expels (shoots) a projectile (arrow) by means of an explosion (blank).
Now, some argument could be made about whether this is technically expelling that projectile... but I think a CO will think it is, and you'd need a slick attorney coupled with a sympathetic judge to succeed.

    Still an interesting contraption!

Very cool idea. I have seen some of the other conversions for 10/22's like you had mentioned, but never this or anything close to it. Looking forward to hearing how it shoots! It looks to me like you have straight fletched arrows. It may be worthwhile picking up a jig to put a helical fletch on it for potentially better stabilization. The Arizona EZ fletch provides the maximum helical in a very convenient format to start fletching your own arrows.
