I've wrote down serial numbers to all my guns. But have never thought of taking pictures. That's a good idea! I keep reciepts and such. But I'd never give my info to someone in a FTF sale. I would record the date, time and location WITH the serial number, but that's it.

I agree with FatGeek you should always CYA and get some sort of documentation.
