A few buddies get together one or two times a year and do some shooting on an old Christmas tree farm. There's not much of anything for miles around so it can get a little crazy with Tannerite and various objects. It seems to ratchet up almost every time with Saturday being no exception. We've found something better than Tannerite called H2.

Well H2 sent a couple reps with an unbelievable amount of "test" material.

Buddies are still uploading videos so more are on the way.
Yes the County Sheriff showed up but not to scold us. He wanted to give his cell phone # so he could come shoot with us next time. LOL

There several pieces of Bobcat steel in these videos. A big thanks to Kimball & wife for getting me a few more targets for Saturday! Those are the only targets that held up & we put a big hurt on them! All my non Bobcat pistol flippers took rifle hits and have holes blown clean through. :(

H2 is good stuff...use it myself at the range for some shooting fun.

You can make those small 1 pounders bang like 5 pounders if you tightly wrap the mixed 1 lb. bag with a roll of duct tape.

    Tight squeeze= big boom! :D

I would like to remind anyone shooting this tannerite, that it is an exploding reactive target. It is a binary activated reaction and you DO NOT use this stuff to blow up anything, but the package it came in. Anything else, and the ATF will have you. Google arrests and tannerite. Blowing up dumpsters, cars and such can catch you a federal case.

    In the news
On January 14th 2008, a man in Red Wing, Minnesota was accused of detonating 100 lb (45 kg). of Tannerite inside the bed of a dump truck by shooting it with a .50 caliber rifle from 300 yards (270 m) away. The ensuing blast could be felt at Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant, and officials from the FBI, BATF, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, US Postal Service, and the US Coast Guard became involved, along with local law enforcement agencies.

The man, Brian Wesley Childs, was arrested for gross disregard for human life and destruction of property with an explosive or incendiary. Childs has since pleaded guilty to detonating an explosive device and unlawful possession of components for explosives, for which he was fined $2,583 and sentenced to three years' probation; the charge of disregard for human life was dismissed.

This is a shorter video but more footage of the van

MickeyBlueEyes, I know that guy got in trouble mostly because he used more than 50lbs at one time. Its my understanding that as long as you stay under 50lbs you are ok but I may be wrong. It sounds like we need to look into this a little more!

    I am close to Indy...

That seemed like a slow burn on the minivan. The shooter was walking away with his head down when it blew up. Is that typical?

The guy walking to the left with his head down was me. I was not shooting at the van (did you hear that BATF&E!!! I WAS NOT SHOOTING AT THE VAN).

I think "those guys" <- see that ATF, "those guys" are still within the guidelines for binary explosives. The farmer was merely removing an obstacle from his field.

    From an ATF FAQ (http://www.atf.gov/publications/download/p/atf-p-5400-7.pdf):
"An individual farmer who merely wishes to mix the binary explosives to remove obstacles from his field and provides no other outside service would not need a manufacturer’s license."

Sorry JVE. I thought about you though if it makes any diff.

Ben, I think we'll need a $10,000 per table buy in to shoot next time. Kinda like Knob Creek. It's getting too popular.

Not sure I'd want to be wearing my presumably work uniform shirt from NES Rental in shoot-em-up video's- especially since said company is based out of the Republik of Illinois..

Looks like a blast though! (no pun intended) :):
