Here's an egregious case of an attempted police cover up in Houston. An officer was on his way to work when he ran a stop sign and nailed a school bus. He had a BAC of .205 and open containers were in his vehicle. His buddies and the chief did not do the right thing, until the press, utilising witnesses on the scene, forced them. What was their motive for covering this up, (we've heard in a similar case that happened in Indianapolis)? Why would they put their jobs on the line? Who knows? The facts seem to be though that the responding officers and investigators, along with the chief, conspired to cover up a crime and even shift blame to another (innocent) person.

This story not only shows the low life side of the blue line, but also illustrates that the press can be a useful tool in forcing justice to served. I really don't know if that's good or bad, (obviously good in this case) knowing how the media has it's own agenda to push. Kinda scary, from all sides.

With all due respect, NOT the same thing. There is no cover-up here. As it has been discussed in detail recently on these boards, there are 67 witnesses (doctors, nurses, EMT's, civilian witnesses, and of course other officers some from other departments) that say he showed ZERO signs of intoxication. Doctor even performed a thorough head exam to check for a concussion. That involves being inches from his face and checking his eyes. HGN would be obvious to even the layperson in a driver that was .19. You may be able to hide outward signs of intoxication but you cannot control nystagmus.

Houston is far worse than what happened in Indianapolis.

Indianapolis we just don't know what happened. In Houston it was an active obstruction of justice that ran to the top of the department.

Has anyone read anything about whether the United States Attorney do there is involved?

I have friends and family down there and HPD is held in lower regard than during its troubles in the early '80s.

They would have made a citizen blow reguardless. He was not treated the same as a citizen. He should have been taken to Wishard for the blood draw like they would have anyone else.
Also they would have searched the car and his bags.

He was treated different from the begining and anyone that is truthful will admit it!

OK, for the 1000th time...he was taken to Methodist Occupational Health as REQUIRED by department policy for non-traumatic injuries. That is where ALL city employees must go if injured on-duty. Been there several times. Sadly, department policy did not keep up with the recently changed law. But if it makes you feel better that we treated Dave different, so be it. The investigation was equally haphazard for both the civilian drivers as well as Dave.

He was a person that just commited vehicular homicide and should have been treated as any other person suspected of commiting that type of crime, not as a policeman with deparment rules first!

Vehicular homicide? Where did you get that? It was a fatal crash...happens on a weekly basis and it is RARELY anything more than a tragic accident. Please enlighten me with your obvious legal knowledge and cite the specific elements from the original scene that would support such a charge.
