In regards to any show on Discovery, all of you do realize that what you see is scripted by the producers of the show correct? You also realize that said producers get all their cues from Discovery itself, correct?

They have been doing this with Jesse James (who told them to shove it and walked away) the Teutels (American Chopper) where the show actually caused a deep rift in the family, and now they are doing it with Red Jacket Firearms.

What you see on your little screen is not how these people are in day to day life. The builds you see don't just walk into the shop, they are sought out by Discovery employees with hopes of putting segments together. Some builds are even thought up by Discovery employees.

If you want to throw discord and disparaging remarks at someone, go to Discovery's website and throw it all directly at their staff.

American Gunner should do just fine at creating their own drama. Read some of the post from AR-15.com Its from 2008 doubt much has changed.

I don't care if its 100 percent scripted and every single word out of each persons mouth is put there by someone else or not. How about I put it this way, I dislike the character steph, and the show would be less painful to watch if she just remained silent on the show. Better? This is all really unnecessary the nuts and bolts are irrelevant , just the end product.
I think we are all pretty much aware that most it, if not all of the drama crap in shows like Red Jacket and Top Shot are scripted / planted / rehearsed / encouraged / not original etc.

I do not believe that 'Sons of Guns' does anything positive for the shooting fraternity. It is, as others have said, apparently scripted like the other Discovery Channel shows and that entire genre has worn out its' welcome on my tv screen. I don't need to tune in to a show where every other word has to be bleeped out.

You forgot all the 'game changers' they come up with...

Its amazing what you can do with a Dewalt drill and black spray paint.

Someone start a petition for the History Channel to bring back "History of the Gun". :twocents:

It may be all scripted and set-up, like the tooth in the gun thing, but fact of the matter is, the owner of Red Jacket likes the popularity or business that the show generates more than the good reputation he used to enjoy for the firearms they build. Their firearms may still be just as good, but that show has done nothing but hurt his name among the serious firearms community.

The producers might decide what goes on the air, but RJ came back for more, so it's not ALL on Discovery's back.

RJ does have the right to say no, they choose not to

Just not realistic. The weapons they build, we can't own. And a lot of this stuff is just not practical, useful stuff. Now, I would love to own a Masterkey and I enjoyed the show where they rebuilt the flamethrower for the WW2 Vet. But I look forward to the premier of Discovery's new shooting show in October. I hope the network does not disappoint.

LOL @ the balistic knife. They do realize that theyve been outlawed since the 80's right? Granted if you had the means, you could make one yourself... but they cant produce, import, or sell them in the U.S.

SPRING-actuated ballistic knives are illegal. Powder-actuated knives aren't.

    (a) Prohibition and penalties for possession, manufacture, sale, or importation
Whoever in or affecting interstate commerce, within any Territory or possession of the United States, within Indian country (as defined in section 1151 of title 18), or within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States (as defined in section 7 of title 18), knowingly possesses, manufactures, sells, or imports a ballistic knife shall be fined as provided in title 18, or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.

    (d) “Ballistic knife” defined
As used in this section, the term “ballistic knife” means a knife with a detachable blade that is propelled by a spring-operated mechanism.

ETA: That episode was ridiculous. The guy comes in with a small stiletto and they create some GIANT Bowie-style knife that's doomed to fail, and then tell him he can't have it.... what a joke. They could've built a much smaller knife that didn't require enough gunpowder to fire to take someone's hand off upon firing. Bunch of tools.....

Sons of Guns jumped the shark when they pretended the daughter was shooting a Desert Eagle (and making comments about what a MONSTER it was - while shooting with both eyes shut and hitting the bull)...only to have the still frames show that she was, in fact, shooting a 9mm Beretta.
