There are all kinds of "reasoning" out there. Sadly, this author isn`t a minority in this thinking, there seem to be plenty who 1). Believe the Constitution is either outdated, or else is a "living document", and, or, 2). The Second Amendment is only relegated to a state-sponsored militia. We believe both of these notions to be false, based on the writings of the Founders, as well as the result of real-life experience. It seems that, if, and when presented with factual data, the non-gun owning public usually sides with law-abiding gun owners and the Second Amendment, and that`s encouraging. We need to do everything we can to educate those who are willing to trade individual liberties for a feeling of security, as well as any who don`t understand that the Constitution is built to protect the rights of individuals from the mob majority. It`s probably a natural progression, or regression as the case may be, that as more people live in cities, and less in rural areas, that as less people, and especially kids, are exposed to hunting, that many believe firearms and firearms ownership to be both antiquated, and unnecessary. The Constitution is not taught in school any longer, and for many years, people have been tutored under the liberal agenda that states that our elected employees are the government, rather than We the People. Hardly anyone understands, or ever talks about the proper role of government, and about how the Framers intended the Constitution to constrain government, to protect the freedoms and liberties of citizens of America. Government is out of control, and looks nothing like what the Founders intended.

Back on point though, we have to keep trying to educate those who differ from us in regards to firearms, and firearms ownership, because everything is politicized anymore, and most seem to be willing to at least listen to reason if we approach them thoughtfully and respectfully.

Japan comes to mind, pretty much no gun ownership, lots of suicides.
I always love bringing up Japan when discussing the topic of gun control because it always has the same result. I mention that Japan has a high suicide rate and very strict gun control, and I am told that a comparison cannot be made because of cultural differences between nations. That same person will then argue that the UK/Sweden/Germany/Australia has strict gun control and fewer firearm deaths, and I will ask how is it that they can now compare countries with different cultures.

...This is someone surrounded by others with the exact same world-view and they can't see that they're blaming Boeing for 9/11...

I don't know of anyone who associates Boeing with controlled demolition or high-level government cover-ups.

Is this really a thing?

Ban pressure cookers, make all cars/trucks out of foam rubber and only capable of going ten miles an hour, only have plastic eating utensils, ban stairs, ladders and horse play too.

And large unsecured bookshelves, also make it so anything sealed has breathing holes built in, just in case someone gets stuck inside.

Or make murder/suicide illegal, oh that didn't work?

The kid that authored the article has a very different perspective than most of us. He is still at that stage in life where he is used to mom and dad providing for his every need. He has never looks at one of his kids and thought that protecting them was the most important thing he has the responsibility for. He's now at college where liberal group think is strong, so he just joins in and spouts the same old rhetoric. Hopefully, he wakes up to the realities of real life. In real life, there exist people that will gladly do you harm for $5 or 15 minutes of fun. In the real world, you don't always have time to call the police when you see an attack starting. Most likely, it's when it's over and done and you are crawling to the phone beaten, bruised or raped. In real life, when guns are not present in a society, might makes right.

Hopefully the kid learns the easy way and not the hard way. Hopefully, he learns though.

That's a pretty good assessment, I'd say. I look at these kids and think, you have no idea about how society actually works. You only know what you've been taught to think by teachers. You haven't yet been taught by life itself. The intellectually honest ones will drop that nonsense once life has beaten it out of them.
