I was wondering if anyone had some good ideas for a list of spare parts (most likely to break) for a M1a that a guy could buy as back up. I want to purchase an M1a soon and i also want to have some spare parts sitting around as well. Thanks in advance!

Everything that goes in the bolt assy. Or better yet, a complete bolt assy that has had the headspace checked. There's not much that fails on the M1A rifle besides the bolt assy and the Op rod.

And I will add, you will not be happy with the prices of these GI parts..
    Pricing nowdays is expensive..

After several thousands of rounds through mine, I have not had anything break. But bolt assembly and oprod would be my choice if I had to have extra parts on hand. Most likely you will shoot out the barrel before something breaks.

I had an extractor launch itself out of the bolt once. Luckily I found it and the spring in the grass. I put it back in and after 20 some years it is still working. The only malf I have ever had with an M1A in 40 some years and thousands of rounds. Never did figure out why it didn't want to be a part of the rifle..

    I suppose a complete bolt wouldn't be a bad idea....I don't have one.
