My dad always told me stainless guns are for lazy people, or those who wanted to get shot first. ;). That being said, the looks of stainless are nice, but if price is concerned, blued are usually cheaper. When I picked up my 10/22 awhile back, I got a blued one for the sake of cost.

I like the look of stainless, but I can't even look at my revolver without it getting fingerprints and smudges all over it. Then I have to wipe it down. Every gun I've buoght since then has been blued. Just my preference.

That's kinda what I was thinking, the stainless, even matte stainless always seems to pick up every fingerprint, and it does seem to attract a lot more attention...

ive always went on the theory that if your actually going to be hunting with the gun, especially waterfowl and such, where the gun is probably going to get wet....then go with stainless. Although I dont think a stainless barrel is 100% stainless, it doesnt rust as quick and easy as blue. If your just plinking with it, probably not a worry your going to have anyways. Plus stainless just looks so much tougher. :rockwoot:

For hunting they say to go with a matte or blued gun because of the reflection factor. I like stainless and you really don't see too many fingerprints on a stainless rifle barrel like you do on a pistol. It's your choice though, one don't shoot no better than the other.

Be aware the the ruger 10/22 receiver is cast aluminum.
The "stainless" model 10/22 has a nice stainless barrel and the receiver has terrible gray paint on it.

The rest of the models have black paint that is just OK looking.
Check out this thread for pics of other's rigs.

I'm getting ready to bead blast my stock receiver hopefully this weekend.

I'll post a pic before and after.

    Here's someone else's pic....

Not entirely true. My stainless came with a black receiver, but this was also (obviously) the synthetic stock version. Maybe it's the wood furniture versions that have the gray painted receiver. One other suggestion, pay attention to those said to be stainless. There is an all-weather version that has a gray coating on the stainless barrel, the others are just stainless, but the difference is night and day in terms of looks.

You're right, it's the laminate stock that I'm thinking of.
The black pant is MUCH better than the grey, IMHO.
The receivers are still all AL.

I just got back from sand and bead blasting my black receiver. (Thanks AllanM!)
I then put a few coats of matte clear on and baked it in the oven.

Looks GREAT next to a stainless barrel!

Pics would be helpful, I would love to see this since the black receiver won't really go with the stock and barrel I plan on using for the build project I'm getting ready to start.
