    With that magazine tube so far in front of the muzzle is there any chance of shot hitting it?

    No, it doesn't happen. You do get a lot of residue build-up just forward of the muzzle, but the shot pattern is still about the same size as the bore as it passes the end of the mag tube. Back in the 90s, a few people had mag tubes that were much longer than that (one INGO member had a tube that held 17+1 2-3/4 inch shells, but I won't out him) without any problems of the shot hitting the tube.
